Highlights from Conf. Call W/ RNC Chairman Priebus & RNC Communications Director Sean Spicer

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus:
“The RNC launched a television ad entitled, ‘State of Our Union.’ We did this obviously on the heels of the president’s State of the Union address tonight…the ad will air in DC, North Carolina, Virginia and Michigan. These are, aside from DC, obviously, states that Barack Obama has to win in order to be reelected.  But they’re also places that he’s unpopular right now and on defense, and it’s our goal to keep him on defense, obviously.
“Our ad highlights the America that Barack Obama has given us. Not the America that Barack Obama inherited but the America Barack Obama made worse. Thirteen million people unemployed. Forty-Nine million people living in poverty, rising foreclosures, corporate welfare deals to campaign supporters.
“One interesting piece form the last State of the Union is that, you might remember, the president highlighted a green energy company in California. I think we all know who that is and he highlighted that company and said that company is going to create jobs. Well, one year later, that company, Solyndra, is bankrupt taking half a billion dollars in taxpayer money and losing one thousand jobs.
“Barack Obama…has a lot of questions he needs to answer…this evening…why has it been a thousand days since the Democrats have passed the budget? And what is his plan to get Americans back to work? And how is he now going to get our spending under control?…
“This was the president who said it was unpatriotic to add four trillion dollars to our national debt. Yet, he added four and a half trillion dollars in just three years. Remember, in those three years…he and the Democrats—Nancy Pelosi included—controlled both houses of the legislature and of course he was controlling the White House…
“The same person who promised to keep unemployment under 8 percent with his stimulus plan is now reigning over an America that has unemployment above eight percent for thirty-five straight months. The same person who promised an ethical administration without the presence of lobbyists has one hundred current or former lobbyists with jobs in his administration.
“The fact is, on issue after issue, this president has promised one thing and done the complete opposite. There’s one promise that I think we have to keep the president accountable for and that we’re going to help him deliver on and that’s that his presidency will be a one-term proposition.
“We look forward to this ad penetrating in those states that we’ve gone up in. We’ll also highlight the ad, of course, through our digital new media reach that we’re constantly working on, and we think that it will be effective to that means as well.”

RNC Communications Director Sean Spicer:
“The RNC went up with a new ad this morning. We’re in four markets, DC, Virginia, North Carolina and Michigan.
“One of the other issues today, just as a reminder coincidentally, is of course the 1,000th day that Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats have not passed a budget. So, while we don’t address this in the ad, it will be something that we will be looking for to see if the president does address this in the State of the Union tonight. When he calls on Congress to act, will he call on Harry Reid to finally pass a budget?
“We looked at key markets. It all goes down to strategy where…North Carolina and Virginia…are states that we think we can take off the map real quick. I think Obama’s vulnerable both in North Carolina and Virginia. And in Michigan, that’s an area where we clearly can carry. Obama carried that, but we…think Michigan is a state that we can make red again.
“And just as a quick side note, what makes this ad so effective is—as we’ve shown time and time again—using the president’s own words against him. Once you start showing the reality—he gives a speech but the reality is where the American people turn around and say, ‘Wait a second, I’m not going to be fooled again.’”
