RNC Chairman Reince Priebus:
“We’re here to launch a campaign of our own called Obama’s Debt End Tour to remind the American people of this president’s failure to create jobs and of his failed policies that have only made things worse.
“So, what we’re doing is we’re launching web ads, radio ads, we have a text messaging campaign that we’re launching. We’re making calls to independent voters. We’re holding press conferences in each state where President Obama will visit because we’re not going to stand idly by while this president perpetrates this fraud of a bus tour while using tax payer dollars to spin his failure to put America back to work …
“It was just a few days ago, you might recall, that he said that he was going to renew his focus on creating jobs. But of course, he can’t help himself because he is the campaigner in chief of course so he would rather be out campaigning than in Washington leading our country out of the ditch that he put us in. And, he’s out here – today he’s in Minnesota talking about jobs – but the only job that he’s talking about is trying to save his own.
“Americans are craving action-oriented leadership but instead what happened this month were a few things: one, we had an embarrassing credit downgrade, we had a rollercoaster stock market, we have stagnating job growth, plummeting consumer confidence and in Iowa, we had over 21,000 jobs that have been lost since Barack Obama took office …
“Iowans, in response to Obama’s failed policies, elected Governor Branstad and a Republican House to counter Obama’s lack of leadership at the national level …
“Job creators need stability and certainty but instead from Obama what they got was tax threats, onerous regulation, a heavy handed EPA, a burdensome and unconstitutional ObamaCare, a vindictive National Labor Relations Board.
“Barack Obama’s policies are job killers. It’s not just the economy that’s the problem here that we’re talking about. It’s the policies that this president, Barack Obama, put in place that has made everything worse.
“Now, the president likes to say that the bad economy isn’t his problem. Instead he’d rather blame everyone but himself. He likes to say ‘inherited’ these problems. Well, one thing this president did inherit was a AAA credit rating.
“Make no mistake, this is Barack Obama’s economy and the only way to turn it around is to make Barack Obama a one term president.
“We will build on our 2010 victories in Iowa to make sure the state goes red in 2012 … That’s why the Republican Party will be working hard in Iowa …”
Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn:
“Make no mistake, the president’s visit to Iowa has all of the trappings of a campaign tour. The only difference between the GOP presidential campaign busses crisscrossing our state this summer and the President’s bus is that the taxpayers are footing the bill for the President’s campaign swing …
“As the President rolls into Decorah, he’ll realize all so quickly that it isn’t the Iowa of 2007 and 2008 because Iowans understand that he has failed to lead on providing certainty to private sector job creators to create jobs in Iowa. In fact, over 60% of independent voters in the state last week that were polled disapprove of the job he is doing of handling the economy and that’s manifesting itself with what we have seen on the ground politically.
“For those of you that had the chance to be in Ames or watch the proceedings in our straw poll this weekend saw the energy, the excitement, the enthusiasm of Republicans in Iowa – the second highest turnout we have ever had in the straw poll’s history. July marked the 29th straight month that Iowa Republicans have out-paced Iowa Democrats in voter registration. And he knows that this is a state that he must carry if he is to win a second term, so make no mistake, this visit has everything to do with politics and very little to do with policy …
“Iowans care more than just their parochial interest, they care about what’s happening to the country and they see uncontrollable spending coming out of Washington. They see uncertainty with small banks that are uncertain to lend because of lending requirements. We’ve got business owners across the state that can’t tell you how much it will cost to implement ObamaCare, so they aren’t hiring or expanding. So those same economic fears that are going on across the country are right here in Iowa.”
